Switching from Chrome to Edge? Follow these steps to import your profile and minimize disruption.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge:

    • Launch the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.
  2. Access Edge Settings:

    • Click the three horizontal dots (ellipsis) in the top-right corner of the Edge window.
    • Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Find the "Import browser data" option:

    • In the settings menu, you should see "Import browser data" on the left hand menu, or in the main window. Click on it.
  4. Choose Google Chrome as the source:

    • In the "Import browser data" section, you'll see a drop-down menu labeled "Import from."
    • Select "Google Chrome" from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select the profile and data to import:

    • Edge will detect your Chrome profiles.
    • Choose the Chrome profile you want to import.
    • Select the data you want to import. Typically, you'll want to include:
      • Favorites or Bookmarks
      • Saved passwords
      • Browsing history
      • Autofill data
      • And any other data that is important to you.
    • Click the "Import" button.
  6. Wait for the import process to complete:

    • Edge will begin importing your selected data. The time it takes will depend on the amount of data you're importing.
  7. Verify the imported data:

    • Once the import is complete, take a moment to verify that your bookmarks, passwords, history, and other data have been imported correctly.
    • Check your favorites bar, password manager, and browsing history to ensure everything is there.
  8. Set Edge as your default browser (Optional):

    • If you want to make Edge your default browser, you can do so in the Edge settings under "Default browser"

Tips for a Smooth Transition:

  • Extensions: Chrome extensions will not transfer automatically. You will need to re-install any extensions that you want in Edge from the edge addon store.
  • Password manager verification: After import, double check that your passwords imported correctly, and that you can log into a few sites.
  • Take time to explore: Edge has some unique features, so take some time to explore its settings and customize it to your liking.
